Bulging stucco is one of those problems that looks minor at first but gets worse fast. Once the stucco starts separating from the substrate underneath, water can get in behind it. From there, you're dealing with more than just a cosmetic issue.
Here's what we were working with on this one - a section of exterior stucco along the lower portion of the wall that had fully separated and was bulging out. The old material had to come off completely. No patching over it, no shortcuts. We stripped it back to the lath, got a clean base, and started fresh.
The repair process goes in stages. After demo, new metal lath goes up to give the fresh stucco something solid to bond to. Then we build the stucco back up in layers, working it to match the existing texture on the rest of the wall. That texture matching matters - a repair that blends in is a repair done right.
The finished section sits flush and firm against the wall. The texture ties into the surrounding stucco so the repair doesn't stand out. That's the goal every time - fix it properly so you forget it was ever a problem.
If your exterior stucco is cracking, soft to the touch, or starting to pull away from the wall, that's worth taking seriously. Small repairs handled early are a lot less involved than waiting until the damage spreads.
