Here's a job that looked straightforward on the surface - and turned into something more important once we got into it. We were brought in to repair the stucco around a large arched window, clean up the surrounding area, and get everything looking right again. Standard scope. But that's not always how it goes.

When we pulled back the stucco, we found wood rot hiding underneath. This is more common than most homeowners realize. Water finds its way in through small cracks or failed seals around window frames, and over time it quietly destroys the wood structure behind the wall. You'd never know it was there just by looking at the exterior. That's why we never skip a thorough inspection once we open things up.

We took care of the rot before anything else. There's no point in applying fresh stucco over compromised framing - it just kicks the problem down the road. Once the damaged material was removed and the substrate was solid, we moved forward with the stucco repair and trim work around the arch. The finished result sits flush, the trim lines are crisp, and the window looks like it belongs there.

This is exactly the kind of work where cutting corners shows up later. A clean exterior finish matters, but what's behind it matters more. Getting both right is what separates a proper stucco repair from a patch job that fails in a few years.

Whether it's a feature window like this one or a section of wall that's been cracked and ignored, hidden moisture damage is worth taking seriously. We'd rather find it and fix it than leave a homeowner with a bigger problem down the line.
